Champions! The Ohio Valley River Rats successfully took home the 2008 USAFL Division 4 National Championship crown on the weekend of October 11th and 12th in Colorado Springs, CO. This is the third USAFL title for the Dockers. Cincinnati won the inaugural USAFL championship in 1997, and in 2004 when the Dockers joined with the Pittsburgh Wallabies to win the division 3 title.

Ohio Valley battled tough competition as well as the elements, including the thin Rocky Mountain air, near-freezing temperatures, strong wind gusts, and even freezing rain on Saturday, in what co-coach Kyle Strenski called, "The worst (freaking) weather I ever played in". I will personally second that statement.

As for the competition, the Rats persevered as they went 1-1 in pool play on Saturday, with a victory over the Orange County Bombers squad, and a narrow 2-point loss against the Pacific Northwest (PNW) Power. PNW came out strong and took advantage of some of the Rats mental mistakes. The second half was a different story as the Rats came back and gained a lot of confidence despite the close loss. Nonetheless, they earned a spot in the division 4 semifinals.

On Sunday, the weather conditions were slightly better, and the Rats were confident and motivated, defeating the New York/DC Magpies in the semi-final round, setting them up for a championship rematch with the PNW Power. This time, the Rats took control early on and did not let go, save for 2 50-meter penalties in the second half, en route to the USAFL Division 4 National Championship!

The Ohio Valley River Rats are the combined team of players from three teams in Ohio and Kentucky: The Cincinnati Dockers, the Louisville Kings, and the Columbus Jackaroos.

Congratulations to the Cincinnati Dockers and Ohio Valley River Rats!

Special thanks to the City of Fairfield and our wonderful sponsor Christy's!
